Cameras and sensors
How forward, rear, and surround cameras alongside radar and lidar sensors change repair costs and may affect coverage considerations.

What it is
Modern vehicles carry a network of cameras, ultrasonic sensors, radar units, and increasingly lidar arrays embedded into windshields, bumpers, and side mirrors. Each device feeds data into the car's central perception system.
Why it matters
A cracked windshield is no longer a glass problem. The forward camera behind it usually needs recalibration after replacement, and bumper-mounted radar requires precise alignment after even minor body work.
Coverage considerations
When reviewing policies, owners commonly look at glass coverage that includes calibration, OEM-parts language, and labor allowances that account for sensor work.
